Mortis is Acre's tribute to a universe the band has loved long before it ever became music — the grim, unforgiving far-future setting of tabletop wargaming's most iconic sci-fi mythology, where humanity's last crusaders wage endless war against demonic forces, monstrous alien threats, and the corruption of heresy itself.
 

For the members of Acre, this universe has always been more than a passing interest — it's a shared passion the band has carried with them between studio sessions and tour stops for years. Mortis began as a labor of love: a chance to bring that world's brutal, unrelenting atmosphere into the band's own sound, and to explore the deeper resonance the band sees between that fiction and their own faith. In Acre's telling, the war against otherworldly evil isn't just a genre trope — it echoes something the band takes seriously in their own theology, where the unseen and the demonic are understood as very real adversaries.
