​KitSafe is FLOCO Media’s content-labeling project for books and related reading published by FLOCO & Ink. It exists so parents, educators, and readers can see—before they open a title—whether the work is meant for children, teens, or adults.
 

FLOCO Media is a Catholic, family-operated company. KitSafe reflects that character: defense of the faith, care for those who cannot protect themselves, and refusal to treat sexual or exploitative material as children’s literature.
 

These labels are FLOCO’s own standards. They are modeled on the idea behind film, television, and game ratings: clear bands, plain descriptors, no surprise content. They are not a government rating and they are not an ALA, school-district, or trade-association rating.
 

When KitSafe appears on our books:

All FLOCO & Ink titles first published in September 2026 or later will carry a KitSafe rating. Reprints and new editions of earlier titles may be updated to the same system as they come back to press. Books issued before that date may not show a KitSafe label.
 

If a title has no label yet, treat it as unrated and read the description before placing it with a child.
 

The ratings

• GA — General Audience - Suitable for all ages. No sexual content, no graphic violence, no coarse language. Themes a parent can read aloud without screening first.
   

• C4 — Children’s (ages 4–12) - Written for children. Mild peril, humor, or moral conflict may appear. No sexual content. No graphic injury. Language stays within what a careful parent would accept for elementary and middle-grade readers. Not intended as teen or adult fiction.
   

• T13 — Teen (ages 13–17) - Written for teenagers. May include stronger conflict, romance without explicit sexual depiction, non-graphic violence, or mature themes (faith, death, justice, family) handled for a high-school reader. Not for the C4 shelf. Not a substitute for adult titles. 
   

• YA+ — Adults 18 and older only - Not a children’s or school title. May include adult sexual content, graphic violence, strong language, or other material FLOCO will not classify for minors. Do not purchase, assign, display, or recommend YA+ titles for readers 17 or under.
   

How to read a KitSafe label

Every FLOCO & Ink title should carry a rating and, where needed, short descriptors, for example:
 

• Brief peril

• Romantic themes

• Strong language

• Adult sexual content

• Graphic violence

• Horror / disturbing images
   

GA and C4 titles will not carry adult sexual-content descriptors. If a manuscript requires those descriptors, it is T13 or YA+, not children’s.
 

Schools, libraries, and retailers
FLOCO will not license, donate, or sell YA+ titles for classroom use, children’s libraries, or minor reading programs. T13 titles are for teen readers, not elementary collections. C4 and GA titles are the titles intended for children.
 

Misuse and enforcement

FLOCO & Ink YA+ titles are not for minors. They are not to be assigned, displayed, recommended, or shelved for readers 17 or under.
 

If a public school district, a member of a teachers union acting in that capacity, an ALA member acting in that capacity, or a public library places FLOCO YA+ books in a collection, lesson, display, or program directed at minors, FLOCO reserves the right to pursue every remedy available under law. That may include refusing further sales, terminating institutional accounts, demanding removal of FLOCO editions from minor-facing shelves and lesson plans, and filing civil claims where a court will hear them.
 

FLOCO does not consent to the use of its books as a tool for sexual exploitation or grooming of minors. Anyone using FLOCO titles that way should be reported to law enforcement. Criminal conduct is a police matter. FLOCO will cooperate with a lawful investigation.
 

KitSafe labels and this policy govern how FLOCO sells, licenses, donates, and markets its own catalog. They do not replace a parent’s judgment.
